I like your new build. I have built several different PE and I noticed that the PENetwork in the 64 bit build is unable to be executed (same as mine), it does work in the 32 bit builds. Also the Recuva doesn’t execute, that happened to me also. You need to install the Vss in the components to have older programs work. I also noticed that you installed Fake Disk from the components. Did that program do anything for programs? I am surprised that you didn’t put your picture on the Administrator log on? You have added a lot of nice features in the latest build.

    • gandalf50 says:

PE Network seems to run fine for me. Haven’t noticed Fake disk doing much. Thanks for the Recuva info. Missed the fact it wasn’t running. Fortunately there are other undelete apps on the PE.

      • gandalf50 says:

I updated the file to fix the Recuva issue and some other small minor issues and added my pic to the login screen. Changes are reflected in the new file Gandalfs Win8.1U1SE_x64 updateable final.iso

Any way to get access to the ISO without creating a MS live account?
    Thanks

    • gandalf50 says:

I have it set to not require an account. So am not sure what is up with One Drive. It takes 10 seconds to create an account though, so not sure its a big issue.

Thanks a lot for sharing these. Could I ask you to confirm that the Checksum file is correct?

When I couldn’t get a match, I re-downloaded the ISO and got the EXACT same MD5 on both downloads (b53f7ea13306ce9d6f1bef9b7d58fdc4) but the Checksum file says something else (A65400E44B16836F9035DEB5E5103848). Other checksums (SHA-1 etc) don’t match either.

What MD5 (or other checksums) are others getting on their downloaded ISO?

    Thank you in advance.

  13. Gary says:

I clicked on the newest x64 version link but I wound up here and the title says it’s the x86 version. Where is the x64 version?

Appreciate the work you have done.

  14. Zrill says:

Hi Gandalf! First of all, thank you very much for the effort you put into this!

I was wondering: Can you mirror this somewhere else? (MEGA, preferably) I’ve tried four times to download this and gets cut off after 1 hour downloading aprox 1270MB. I´ve tried to search if there was any way to copy it to my OneDrive account to no avail. Here, where I am, bandwidth is a serious issue, I’m a very lucky guy to have 3Mbps D / 750Kbps U

Again, thank you for your work

  15. Areoh says:

    Gandalf,

Many thanks for the time you’ve put into this project! We love http://bit.ly/Windows81x64PEU1Updatable and it works great with a bootable USB drive.

However, we’re wanting to pull the boot.wim file and using WDS to boot the environment over the network. This works using the x86 version; but not the x64 version. The message we get when booting to the wim: http://www.eightforums.com/attachments/installation-setup/54496d1417118395t-boot-problem-digital-signature-winload-exe-_20141127_204914.jpg (this isn’t my thread; just screenshot that matches our issue.)

Can you think of why this error would occur and would you happen to know of a work-around?

We where also successfully able to boot the x64 version of http://windowsmatters.com/2014/01/20/new-dual-booting-win8-1pe-x86-x64/ without issue.

    Thanks again!

    • Henri says:

I have multiple computers at home and I also experienced this problem on one of the four computers I have.

On the three computers, they are running Windows 8 whilst the one causing the winload problem was running Windows 7.

I simply installed the Windows 8 bootloader replacing the Windows 7 bootloader and it simply works after.

However, in your environment, I guess this wouldn’t work as you would have multiple machines. And I’m not that technically inclined within enterprise networks – so don’t ask me :P

    Thanks for sharing

  17. Aiyah says:

Sir, link on dropdown in top is not working. x64 still points to x86.
Thanks for the great PE. :)

    • gandalf50 says:

I found the error. Links are now correct.
      thx

      • diwa says:

hi gandalf50 – your latest winpe is really sophisticated, thank you so much. what i nevertheless miss is access to my sdcard. i’ve tried to install my drivers (oem), additionally others from the win-filerepository – no luck.

(only as info: i built a rescue stick using macrium reflect using an own-built winpex86-boot wim, and added a selection of appropriate drivers. booting macrium –> success sdcard – shutdown macrium –> winpe appeared (!?): sdcard included!)

  18. Chrisl154 says:

Hey Gandalf, I have put this version of the PE on a bootable flashy, Problem is I get a winload.exe error anytime I try to boot it. I used Rufus and this ISO with a stand Flash drive. Trying to boot off a win 8 Machine. Is there something im missing by chance? This picture from a post above is basically the same error : http://www.eightforums.com/attachments/installation-setup/54496d1417118395t-boot-problem-digital-signature-winload-exe-_20141127_204914.jpg
    Thank you for your time.

  19. Jonathan says:

Just discovered this and really great, been looking for a replacement for Hiren’s BootCD’s LiveXP! Thanks!

Is there any chance you could include at least one white on black high contrast theme and possibly the windows magnifier? Win8’s default theme is unbearably white, especially when fixing notebooks with bad/dull displays.

    • gandalf50 says:

One of the apps in the portable apps menu is call Virtual Magnifying Glass. It should do the job of replacing the magnifier. High contrast themes are another issue. I may add to a future version.

  20. Archit Bajpai says:

Hey dude, first i would like to say, “You did a great job, the best i have ever seen”. Second, i don’t have much experience with PE, so would you tell me how to add driver pack into this PE (Size isn’t a matter) and also please add some memory diagnostic tools for ram and a good HDD partition manager and bad sector repair tool. Thanks in advance.

And i’ll be waiting for the final release of this PE with dual boot. Please if you have some spare time then mail me on the info. Thanks again.

  21. Peter says:

Thanks again for a new build of your excellent boot image.

  22. Tom says:

Thank you for your great work.

A suggestion for your next release of Windows 8.1 U1 PE: You could include ‘Emsisoft Emergency Kit’ (www.emsisoft.com/en/software/eek/) instead of ‘ClamWin Antivirus’. ClamWin has a bad virus recognition. Emsisoft Emergency Kit has an excellent virus recognition (because it uses the Bitdefender scan engine) and it is portable.

  23. next2u says:

Thanks for your great job, buddy. However, the mega link was for Win7x86 rather than Win8.1×86, please fix it up. Thanks.

  24. Pumuckl says:

I’am very lucky to find your incredible Boot-ISO with UEFI-32 support.
    Thanks!!
Although I have several Multi-Boot-Keys with various WinPE (some I made myself) I was unable to boot my now ASUS F205TA with Win8.1 32-Bit because my Bios has NO(!) CMS-Option to boot my Boot-Keys which use either Grub or Isolinux as bootloader.

With your excelent “Windows 8.1 X86 U1 PE with Updateable USB Portable Apps” I got now managed to boot up in UEFI-32-Bit-Mode.

However I stll can not do what I need:
    1. resize OS-Partition Drive C: in order to gain about 5Gb free space out of about 9GB free spacce in total
    2. the keyboard is locked fully even in CMD-Window
The reason I think is: My ASUS F205TA is encrypted with BitLocker.
I searched the internet to get a solution but unsucessfully yet.
Any help possible?? Thanks in advance.

  25. Gabrielmast says:

    Hey Gandalf!
So, I’m a student and one of our projects was to build a Windows 8 PE using WinBuilder.

I have been able to build 3 different Windows 8 PE, but whenever I load them, the only thing that comes up is just a shell swapper window, telling me to choose a shell to load but when i click GO a message comes up saying “unable to load selected shell” but theres no shell to choose from!

And it is the same issue for the 3 PE i managed to build.

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

  26. Peter says:

Can I access 32bit WinOS with 64bit Gandalf ToolCD?

Can I access Win 7 system on hard disk with Win 8.x Gandalf ToolCD?

Is there a changelog for new updates of Gandalf ToolCDs?

    • gandalf50 says:

Yes you can access 32bit WinOS with 64bit versions and yes you can access win 7 systems with win8.x versions.
Unfortunately this is no changelog but the most recent versions usually have the most improvements and applications.

So, how do I add my own set of portable programs and how do I go about removing/uninstalling the one’s I don’t need from the ISO?

  32. Jim says:

I can open my BitLocker encrypted system drive and replace files which are normally in use. Great job! (I’m using WIN7 Ultimate.)

TrueCrypt 7.1a as extra app would be nice.
A keyboard layout changer would be perfect ;-).

  36. Gabe says:

    Hi Gandalf,

This version (Windows 8.1 x86) is my favorite! Works awesome on my rig! :-)
I have two questions about it:

1- Is there a way to permanently change the display resolution? Is there a setting or a portable app for that? I mean every time I boot with this iso I have to set the resolution to FULL HD. I’d like my pendrive with this iso to remember it next time I use it.

2- The bitlocker function is really cool, it works with all my encrypted HDDs, but is it possible (such as in real Windows) to auto unlock the drives when I boot? I always have to manually unlock all drives and I have many. Again: is there a setting, a portable app for auto unlocking bitlocker encrypted drives or maybe a simple bat file that I can create and inject somewhere?

    Many thanks in advance!

    • gandalf50 says:

Isn’t multires in the tray. That is a quick way to set it but only for the session. If you want it permanent the you can either inject the correct video drivers for the system you are booting from, this will mek it will run with the default optimal resolution of that system your booting from. Or you could edit the pecmd.ini file and change the line ‘DISP W1028 H768 B32 F60‘ to the screen resolution you want. I am thinking about making some videos about how to do this and other modifications in the near future.

I am no expert with bitocker but check this link https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj649838%28v=wps.630%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396. You could probably create a powershell script to unlock all your locked drives.
